Sports Background:
Swimming
I swam competitively until age 14 then swam with a masters club when I picked up the triathlon bug. I have swam for many years and excel at open water swimming and I have also raced in several open water swimming races. I placed 4th overall (1st in age group) in the 1999 2.5 km Canada Day challenge at Sasamat lake in a time of 32:50 .
Biking
I have competed in road bike racing for 4 years and advanced to category 3. I have been riding road bikes since 1983 and bring a wealth of experience and useful tips to my athletes. I also have ridden mtn bikes since 1985 and have also competed in several mtn. bike races.
Running
I competed in cross country running and track in high school and I have run competitively in races since 1978. For over 29 years I have competed in running races at distances from 5 km up to the marathon.
Triathlon Racing Experience
When I watched the 1982 ironman broadcast on TV, Dave Scott's win inspired me to find a new challenge. At the age of 16 I decided to enter my first triathlon. After a few weeks of training I entered the Sri Chinmoy triathlon race in Victoria in 1983 and finished, feeling good, strong and happy and I was hooked.
I have raced at both age group and elite levels and have represented the B.C. elite team at Nationals on 3 separate occasions. I also represented Canada in the demonstration sport of Triathlon at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand in 1990. I have also completed 4 ironman races all of which were under 10 hours with a Personal Best of sub 9:30 (1997).
I have also raced the ironman in Kona, Hawaii (1997).
Coaching Experience
In the early 90's I began helping other athletes get involved in the sport.
I have been formally involved in coaching athletes the sport of triathlon since 1996. Athletes I have coached are as varied as seasoned veterans to beginners who have never raced a triathlon. Many single sport athletes who've coached have also made a successful transition to triathlon. I bring a wealth of knowledge from my many years of training and racing to make your triathlon experience fun and result oriented.
